Good for Synaptica, but bad for my competition...
Well, both lady electricians performed EXACTLY as I expected them to: diligently, enthusiastically, punctually, professionally. Both were excellent with the customers and were a pleasure to work with.
What I can't believe is how they've been treated by both previous employers and tradesmen in the 21st Century, just for being female tradespersons. It's really made my blood boil. Let me list what they've had to endure (as told to me by Ina and Clare, completely independently of each other):
forced ejection from site
Building the Synaptica Team
Very exciting times (for me & Synaptica (http://www.electricianbishopsstortford.co.uk/) at least)!
I have found 2 lady electricians to whom I can confidently subcontract work. They are both highly skilled, experienced, diligent, and reliable.
Can't wait to see the faces of the lads in the wholesalers on both sides of the counter when Ina & Clare come in to collect materials!
EDF
Hello fellow electricians don't you just love EDF. A little story we fitted a new 17th edition consumer unit(fuse box if your not an electrician)any way we found a shared Main Head.Their was two main fuses on for the ground floor flat and one for the 1st floor flat in the same place sharing the neutral. In case your not sure were i am coming from if the residents in the ground floor flat were on holiday and the 1st floor main fuse blew the 1st floor resident would have no electricity until the ground floor resident came home.EDF have told us this not allowed and they will not do it.
Long live the RCD!
This week I have been really busy, everything from a consumer unit change to a 1st fix in a bathroom. I do sometimes wonder why people call us electricians in to do a job then try to tell me that a mirror non IP rated with lights in it can be fitted in zone one just above the bath! Because the shop that sold it to them said it could! When I told them that it could not I can't remember how many times they asked me “ am I sure? “. When I said to them I will not be starting the works nor giving a certificate for it, they then decided to change where they wanted it.
Sticky (Not) Minitrunking
Just had a call from a customer that the sticky minitrunking I had run the 2.5mm T&E in for the stair lift supply had come away from the wall. Im going back first thing tomorrow to Hemel Hempstead to fix it back to the wall with screws. Next time the SOP for the bloody stuff will be to screw in place. It'll take a little longer, but at least it won't fall off the wall!
