I got a call to investigate why the kitchen sink was live along with all metallic items in the kitchen. After a short while testing and taking sockets off I discovered this little gem. The earth was melted and touching the live terminal giving around 200v ac down the cpc. Surprisingly the RCD didn't trip and that the customer didn't seem to care that the socket was hot!
